The American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine (AAUCM) is the leading society for physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners practicing the specialty of urgent care medicine. Urgent Care Medicine concentrates on the evaluation and treatment of acutely arising conditions in all age groups. Urgent care specialists often first diagnose chronic conditions, generally with referrals to primary care physicians.




The American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine is the only urgent care organization that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide its own Continuing Medical Education, the only urgent care medicine organization represented in the Specialty and Service Society of the American Medical Association and the only urgent care medic ine organization recognized by the AMA.The AAUCM, in cooperation with the AMA, was successful in having Urgent Care Medicine, (UCM) established as a self-designated/practice specialty code by the AMA.
The American Board of Urgent Care Medicine (ABUCM), the certifying body of the AAUCM, is the only organization in the U.S. functioning to board certify properly qualified candidates in the specialty of urgent care medicine.
